שלום! Today I’m answering my #1 many asked running gear question – What running shorts are you wearing? Where can I get them? and I’m touching on a few other very popular questions on running like how numerous miles a week I run and my strength training routine.

In case you’re new to this lil ol’ site / blog / social media situation – I’m Monica Olivas, a red-headed Mexican on a mission to run a lot, eat a lot ג’רזי בורוסיה מנשנגלדבך and talk about it a lot here and on RunEatRepeat.com. I started that site as a journal to remember my first marathon training journey – and never expected anybody to read it. Well, a few people did! and then a few much more did!! and now it’s a huge online community of people who love/hate running and love/like eating! ברוך הבא!

I gave trainer Steve a really hard time about the ol’ bait and switch run. but it was the best and I feel really motivated to start training for a race.

– I’m finally ready to move. It’s been in the back of my head films for a year and I’m going to set a date to list my place so I have a deadline to do everything I need to do.

– I kinda want to rent a beach house for a week or long weekend somewhere around SoCal… but I’ve never used Air B&B before. Is that better than kayak? other recommendations??

And today I’m addressing that first question on running shorts. here are my favorites and some suggestions on how to find the best pair for you!

The best Running Shorts – no chafing, no thigh rub, run faster, laugh harder

One of the most common questions I get on the blog, Facebook and Instagram is… some variation of

What running shorts are those?

Where do you get those running shorts?

What shorts are you wearing to run?

So here’s a list of my favorite running shorts. These are all great options to avoid thigh chafing or as some like to call it chub rub. check out the links below for much more info on each option.

List of the best long Running Shorts:
Road Runner Recharge 6” shorts – these are too short for my preference, I typically wear the 8 inch length version.

Danskin now 7″ Bike Shorts – I’ve seen these at Walmart and on Amazon. They also have a shorter pair so make sure you’re getting the appropriate length for your body.

Tips to find the best Running Shorts for You:

– look for a pair that are long enough to cover the area of your thighs that rub. I objective for shorts that have a 6”, 7” or 8” inseam.

– look at how long the leg area is from the groin – not how long they are overall. Some shorts have a high waist or are cut to sit on your hips low or high. You want to know how long the leg part will be when wearing them.

– High quality compression fabric is important. cheap or thin fabric is much more likely to ride up / not stay in place. and the wrong fabric will not be flattering (read as: if you are self conscious about your butt and thighs jiggling – you want quality compression fabric). look for a pair of shorts that is a combination of Spandex and Polyester or Nylon. The same fabric guidelines apply to capris and leggings.

– They’re expected to be tight. If you’re used to running in loose runningshorts with the built in chonies underwear– compression type shorts might feel revealing or weird. but if you try to get them loose they’ll relocation around and that’s often how chafing starts!

– שלם על זה. some of my favorite running shorts are much more expensive than the workout shorts I can get at Target or wherever. but I’m searching for shorts that are long enough to not ride up, high quality compression fabric – and those things are not easy to find. So, I’d rather pay for much more expensive running shorts and delight in my run instead of pull at them the whole run or feel self conscious. and in my experience running shorts like the ones discussed last a long time (and I’m running in them a lot!).

1. Puffy essential chain – best now I have a fluffy pink heart that I got at the dollar Store. It’s so ideal for finding my keys rapidly in the black hole that is my purse. also – the essential ring part is a clip so I don’t have to squeeze my essential back on the ring when I drive somewhere to go run. I suggest everyone that has to remove their essential from the essential ring often look into a ג’רזי ססואולו essential ring with a clip!

2. Cereal with granola in it. I love granola but it’s so calorie dense! So I really dig cereal that has granola clusters to help balance it out.

Saturday included a household satisfying with nachos. That’s exactly how we do.

I had to push my long run this week to Sunday for different reasons. It kinda threw me off routine mentally, however I rolled with it.

So, I started the day with banana, toast as well as iced coffee.

Last year I stopped training for races since I was racing so much – I didn’t requirement to do long runs in addition to races as well as I needed to recuperate / rest in between races. I basically utilize races as training runs as well as just like in distance training sometimes they’re good, sometimes they suck.

But, I have a marathon coming up in September as well as racing season is sluggish during the summer. So, I understood I should at least do one 20 miler before my next race.

I am a strange bird unique tiger in that I can run 15 miles no problem. But, anything over 16 as well as I just don’t wanna. אני משתעמם. אני עייף. I get ill of my own thoughts as well as just being in my head. So, I would rather do 15 back to back over 20 miles in one day.

And that’s what I usually do – I don’t run more than that unless it’s a race anymore! This isn’t an perfect plan for each runner, however this is my pastime as well as what I prefer so that’s what I do. (Do you. discover a great training plan for your body.) I want to enjoy running as well as that’s a great balance for me

The moral of the story: Running 20 miles alone in the summertime isn’t the most fun ever. But, I did it. הסוף.

I believed the marathon runners available would be interested to know: I have never run more than 20 miles besides during a race. I don’t run those super long 22+ mile runs during marathon training. For my very first marathon I believe I maxed out at 18 or 19 miles. perhaps my second too. I can’t remember.

Q: What do you eat after a 20 mile marathon training run?

A: Anything I want.

After my run I ate that watermelon Chobani as well as then headed to WF for food. I was craving a Suja huge time!

Also – running 18 miles or more just makes me crazy hungry. Oddly, running 15 or less as well as my body is typical hungry (which is most likely crazy hungry to the typical person). So, I tried to keep it balanced however was randomly snacky too.

Question: Do you get tired during long workouts or time alone?

It’s weird since I like being alone, however after 2.5 hours of running solo I’m just ill of my head movies.
